THE NILE & EGYPTIAN CULTURE

The Nile is the longest river in the world (4,150 miles) and originates in and around Lake Victoria in Africa. It has several odd features. The most commonly known oddity is that it runs from the south to the North. This is the only river in the world that runs in a counter direction to where it is located, i.e., in the Northern Hemisphere all over rivers run from north to south except the Nile. This accounts for why during ancient times Upper Egypt referred to the region in southern Egypt and lower Egypt was in the north.

Another unusual feature is that the Nile drains over 3 million km² (1.5 million square miles), or 10% of Africa. Some of its water takes 6 months to reach the Mediterranean Sea and though it flows through one of Earth's harshest deserts and travels the last 2,400km (1,500 miles) without a single tributary, it never runs dry. No other river on the planet has such tenacity.

Still other oddities exist about the Nile. Each year, our ancestors could rely on what was known as the spectacular flood, which gave the name, the Blue Nile. This flooding occurred like clockwork every year (until the Aswan High Dam was built) and was celebrated by the Ancients and called akhet - the inundation and the return of the God, Hapi (discussed in detail later on this page) known for bringing fertility to the land. As a matter of fact, this flooding was so precise that festivals were held between June and September every year for thousands of years. Also, for just a few weeks each year the Blue Nile used to swell to over 50 times its dry season size and carried with it a staggering 140 million tons of rich, fertile silt as it rages, thick and brown, towards the sea.

It is not clear how the flooding has been affected now that the dam at Aswan is in place. As described below, other implications of the dam’s impact may exist. Yet another oddity exists (bend in the Nile) that will also be described below.

The Nile has had a prominent place in ancient times as well as current day Egypt. As depicted in the image above, many of the temples dedicated to the Gods and Goddesses used to be located on the Nile. And in ancient times, the Nile used to be located just in front of Sphinx. Beautifully pictured here, the pyramids in their original white polished limestone splendor would have been visible for hundreds of miles in any direction.

This map is to demonstrate how small the Nile delta is in relation to the overall landmass of Egypt. Most people are unaware that Egypt spans two continents with most of its land on the African Continent. The red rectangle has been added to show the narrow corridor in which Archaeologists have focused their attention in uncovering temples and pyramids. It represents only 22% of the entire landmass. The blue rectangle is the area now lost to Lake Nasser when the high dam at Aswan was built. (See below for photo of unexcavated pyramids inaccessible due to Lake Nasser.)

As mentioned above, a mere 22% of the land in Egypt has been studied for archaeological finds. And of that percentage, approximately one third is now inaccessible due to the high dam at Aswan and the waters of Lake Nasser. The photo above was taken in 2001. One of the facilitators pointed out what looked to be pyramids while cruising Lake Nasser (see red circles) to a renown Egyptopologist Guide. He indicated that these were in fact pyramids and many were (and other structures) lost when the dam was built. He volunteered that the total count of pyramids in Egypt was up to 80! (Yes, 80) …and that was in 2001. Following this trip, the facilitator took it upon herself to research pyramids world-wide and discovered that pyramids are located in every continent and almost every country She also discovered that China now holds the record for the most pyramids at a staggering 100! And the most famous is called the “The Great White Pyramid” because it is covered in smooth white limestone and is the exact measurements of the Great Pyramid in Giza! Unfortunately, the public will not be seeing this pyramid or about 30 others found in a cluster nearby anytime soon. Conveniently, the Chinese government placed their premiere miliary launch facility comparable to the highly classified Vandenberg AFB near Santa Maria, CA completely around this pyramid complex.

Today the Nile is a tourist attraction in addition to maintaining some of its ancient purposes such as fishing and irrigating the land – all life-giving purposes. Three main vehicles are commonly seen on the river as depicted in the photo on the left. These are the felucas in the foreground, fishing boats (small boat on right) and the cruise ships (behind). However, as shown in the picture on the right, cruise boats are spaced apart in attempt to allow the visitor to experience what the Nile has looked like for thousands of years. Note how narrow the delta of the river is before desert starts.

Visitors to Egypt are in for a treat while cruising the Nile. Immediately upon setting sail, you are taken back in time. Often as gazing out the window of the cruise boats (such as the photo on the left), you pass fishermen fishing the way they have since fishing was conceived. Or a “natural” fisherman, a blue heron as seen in the middle photo. And no matter how many times you may visit Egypt, experiencing a sunset on the Nile is primordial and soothing to the soul.

Also as part of the experience of stepping back in time while you cruise the Nile it is not uncommon to catch glimpses of tombs as shown in these photographs. Although most of these just like the tombs located in the Valley of the Kings are fairly recent. It should be noted that no tomb of any Egyptian God or Goddess has ever been discovered. However, a closely guarded secret is that Osiris intends on resurrecting. He is conscious inside his body lying in wait for the time of his resurrection. For those of you with your spiritual remote viewing abilities turned on, I encourage you to visit him under the Giza Plateau and share health energy. For more details on encounters with Osiris related to this, read Giza-Genesis: The Best Kept Secrets Vol. 1 by Howard Middleton Jones and James Wilkie. Other than this deliberate exception, all other Gods and Goddesses seem to have accomplished ascension.

A common occurrence when passing the temples is to have direct recall of your past lives in Ancient Egypt. The above pictures show Kom Ombo (left) and Luxor Temple (right). One minute your physical eyes will see the temples as they are today and in an instant, your eyes will behold the beauty that the temples once held.

Above left is a sketch done in 1842 titled, “Island of Philae, Looking Down the Nile” (artist unknown) that gives somewhat of an impression of the serenity, beauty and sacredness of the temples along the Nile. Imagine how even more beautiful the temples were when each had their original colors. The image (above right) was created by artist, Mark Millmore. It is his rendition of how Luxor Temple may have originally looked. (See this and his other images at www.eyelid.co.uk)

Robert Bauval, Author of The Orion Mystery captured scientists’ attention world-wide by demonstrating a direct relationship of the 3 Giza Pyramids to the 3 stars of the belt in the Orion’s Star Constellation. In his analysis, he also recognized that other structures correlate to stars in this constellation, and noted the placement of the Milky Way to the Orion Constellation matched that of the Nile as shown in the diagram above. He was also instrumental in pushing the dating of how the placement of structures and the Nile in relationship to the stars and the Milky Way back to 10,500 B.C. Two strong possibilities exist for this dating, which has since been independently validated by others such as Graham Hancock. The structures were either built at this time OR they were designed to bring this date to our attention. Either theory is intriguing and has kept us searching for the answer.

Ancient Egyptians have depicted in many temples the story of creation. Shown here is the depiction with Nut, the Goddess of the Sky stretched out over Earth. Shu is seen supporting her with his hands positioned on her sexual chakra (creation) and breasts (fertility milk). Her lover, Geb is shown lying in a balanced state representing the Earth.

A part of the Creation Story relates to the Nile River. The Nile has been compared to the Milky Way, which has been described as the spilled breast milk from the Sky Goddess. Milk from the Goddess contains coded information much like our own cells and DNA. Due to this connection, one wonders what is contained in the very waters of the Nile. (More information on the relationship to creation, the Milky Way, Nile, Cow, etc. is in the Valley of the Queens Photo Pages.)

In addition to the Ancient Egyptian story of how the Universe was created, there also seems to be levels of creation related to the physical world. This may account for why images of Geb and Nut, Shu and Tefnut often include Nephthys and Isis, and others such as the image on right taken from a tomb.

Author of Isis and Osiris, Exploring the Goddess Myth, Jonathan Cott believes that the Ancient Egyptians were well aware of Quantum Physics and had no distinction between science and religion. According to this author, Atum produced Shu and Tefnut, which were the atmosphere (both names mean atmosphere). The Ancient Egyptians viewed the sky as the skin of the ocean (primorial waters) with the Earth inside. Shu keeps the ocean off the Earth and Tefnut maintains the atmosphere under Earth. Therefore, the first steps of Creation appear as a sphere. Physicists call this a vacuum while Metaphysicians call it “The Void.”

And in relation to what occurred from the Sphere of Creation can best be said by Atum himself (taken from a papyrus derived from hieroglyphs in a temple), “After I developed, development developed.” From Shu and Tefnut came Nut (sky) and Geb (Earth) who are dependent on atmosphere. This step of creation created a biosphere and once that came into existence, principle life is possible. This then is the creation of Isis, Osiris, Nephthys and Set. These four elements being considered negative, positive, gravity and electromagnetism and other aspects of the physical, i.e., male, female, life and death. And when the child, Horus is added, you have the making of the basic “family.” This is to experience in one lifetime or another being a father, mother, brother, sister and child.

Creation within creation is displayed in the above image on the left.It is a papyrus showing Nut stretched across the sky, but instead of showing Shu, Tefnut, and Geb and others related to the original Creation, it is displaying the construct of the principles of life in the physical. Within the umbrella of Nut are Human Beings, plants and animals as well as Gods and Goddesses standing by assisting on the journey back to Spirit. According to an Egyptianman in the Papyrus Store where this was purchased, it tells the story of “man” and the journey from the physical world back to the cosmos.

A strikingly similar depiction and story resides with the Navajo Indians of North American (See image on right of a rug design). Note the outstretched figure with rows of humans holding corn stalk. According to the Navajo story of creation in the physical, all things come from Mother Earth. It is interesting that two groups of people on different sides of the world have such similar creation stories and depict a female “Creator” stretching from one horizon to another.

Another point of similarity to Native Americans and the Aztecs reference to the four directions, Ancient Egyptians describe Nut’s fingers and toes touching the four cardinal points or directions. Notice both images displayed combine the four directions and elements with creation. The image on the left is by artist, Joe Ben, Jr., a Navajo sand painter. And the image on the right is an Aztec depiction of creation by four gods and of the fourdirections (artist unknown). Both display the beginnings stemming from a central point, or Creator.

There are other stories of the Creation coming from Ancient Egypt. As shown in the image to the right, the Creator, Khnum made “man” from the various colors of mud from the Nile. Surprisingly similar to the Native Americans (Hopi), four people were brought forth onto to the Earth.

Ancient Egyptian
The first were the “Romut,” meaning "men", and were the Egyptians. Second was “Áamu,” the people from the desert mountains east of the Nile. Third called “Temehu,” were people from the Mediterranean coast in today's Libya west of the Nile Delta. And last to be made were the black people to the south of Egypt.

Native American
  1. Yellow people that became Far Eastern
  2. Red people are those of Indian decent
  3. White are the Caucasian people of the world
  4. Black people in Africa

There is yet another comparable story of the Creation of Man that comes from the Sumerians. In fact, the scene as shown on left is amazingly similar to the Ancient Egyptian one above showing a Goddess holding a man (above image). Like the Egyptian story that “man” came from the mud of the Earth, in the Sumerian version, man was made from clay. For more information on what the Sumerians documented, Zecharia Sitchin’s books are highly recommended. Start with the Earth Chronicles then read The Lost Book of Enki.

The Nile River also plays a role in the journey of Humans becoming “God Man”. As depicted in the  papyrus drawing on the right Queen Nerfertiti is being assisted on her journey by several Goddesses (from left to right Nephthys, Isis, Maat, and Hathor). She is on her journey to enlightenment and ascension.” Over the “celestial” boat is the sun disk or Great Central Sun representing the Creator. Extending down from the Creator are ankhs, which stand for eternal life. (More information about ascension can be found on the Luxor Photo Page).

Other observations about the Nile conveying messages about duality and the integration of our two sides/selves can be made. Whether perceived as positive and negative or masculine and feminine, neither are “bad.” Both are necessary to exist in the physical. The Ancient Egyptians protrayed this duality in a Being named, Hapi. The scene on the left is from Abydos Temple and it shows Hapi exhibiting both male and female characteristics.

Also, Hapi is depicted elsewhere with an even ebb and flow between the two selves. As the center image shows, Hapi appears equal on either side churning the Nile with duality including Upper and Lower Egypt or positive and negative from a center point along the Nile (discussed below) This same “churning” was noticed by Graham Hancock while studying the ancient temples at Angkor Wat & Angkor Thom in Cambodia (right photo). This scene shows the Being, Vishnu churning the two sides. One side represents postive and the other negative while the four arms are riminescent of having two bodies/selves (male and female) And like the churning of Hapi over the Nile at the point in which the soul journeys as described in the Luxor Photo Pages, both Beings are over a body of water.

The Nile has been observed along with the structures at Giza to have a direct relationship to the stars and the cosmos. One researcher, Livio Catullo Stecchini’s view concerning this relationship is captured in Peter Tompkin’s Secrets of the Great Pyramid:

“The Egyptians were proud that their country had some unique geographic features, which could be expressed in rigorous geometric terms and had a shape which related to the order of the cosmos as they saw it. They believed that when the gods created the cosmos they began by building Egypt and, having created it perfect, modeled the rest around it. …[The] Egyptians put great stress also on the geographic peculiarities of the course of the Nile.”

An intriguing theory arises from Goro Adachi, researcher and author of The Time Rivers. It has its basis from observing the relationship of the Nile River to the Milky Way, and several odd features about the river among other anolomies. We start by accepting the significance of the placement of the structures on the Giza Plateau that align with the date, 10,500 BC (Thanks to the work of Robert Bauval, Graham Hancock and others) Then, we recognize an unusual feature of the Nile, which is that it runs from south to north instead of north to south. Add in the source of the Nile River being located at Lake Victoria at the equator, the Basic Meridian, a theory emerges to place a starting point of 10,500 BC at the origin with the “ending” point at Giza before the delta (See left image). This is appropriate considering the delta region looks like a lotus flower with the Nile as the stem much like the image on the right. Ancient Egyptians saw the lotus as a symbol for the regeneration of life. Since the lotus is also connected with chakras this makes Giza the crown jewel or crown chakra – our connection to our God Self and the Creator.

Once the start and finish dates are established, it is a matter of associating other key dates and latitudes to features of the Nile (See map with timeline). The most pronounced of which is the unique features of the Nile, called the “Great Bend” by Ancient Egyptians. As the timeline shows, 4000 BC is the start of the bend and is linked to the rise of Mesopotamia (present day Iraq)where “100 firsts” (best described by Zecharia Sitchin in his series of books, The Earth Chronicles) of civilization emerged. These include, but are not limited to agriculture, mathematics, language, etc.

The next most notable date that coincides with a feature of the Nile is where Luxor is located. This date is 3100 BC when the event known as the ‘Unification of the Two Lands’ where King Menes is credited for unifying Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt. According to Adachi, 3134 BC is also when the Mayan Calendarbegins and 3100 BC is when the Hindus attribute the start of the present age called, Kali Yuga.

Then follows the date of 2350 matching up with 19.5ºN, where the passageway of the soul from Abydos is located and is the angle of the star, Sirius is on the horizon in relation to Orion’s star, Alnitak as viewed from the Great Pyramid (Seesketch of Great Pyramid above right). 19.5ºN also carries other significance that Richard Hoagland, ex NASA Scientist is responsible for bringing to the public’s attention (See his web site at www.enterprisemission.comfor extraordinary details concerning this latitude).

Finally, using the Mayan Calendar and having Giza at the end point, the date of 2012 AD emerges. Called the “end times”, “the beginning of the 5th world” by the Hopi, and Armageddon by fear-based believers, this date holds much importance to Humanity’s spiritual journey and destiny. That leads us to ask, “Will the Circle the Pyramid Event usher in the “end times” and opening the door to ascend into higher dimensions?”

In “light” of the aforementioned theory that the Nile River represents a timeline for Humanity’s journey toward ascension, the same author that put forth this theory speculates the Nile River was constructed rather than a natural formed body of water. His reasoning centers around three things. First, the Nile runs contrary to gravity, geological factors, ebb and flow of the moon, and other natural influences. Second, the bend as previously discussed is an unexplained oddity in that the river runs west to east then east to west before turning back north.

Thirdly, at the point in which the Nile runs from east to west like the rising sun is at the 19.5º latitude, and is considered by Ancient Egyptians a gateway/passage for the dead directly connected with Abydos. And as travelers to Egypt know, Abydos is located quite a drive’s distance from the Nile. Yet the ancient structure at Abydos called the Osirian as seen in the above photo is flooded by water from the Nile! To date, modern-day researchers cannot determine the connection or how to stop the water from entering the temple. Hence, why it is that tourists are not allowed down in the Osirian Temple. Considering the Osirian Temple is one of the most ancient structures on the planet and connected with creation, one wonders about the ingenuity and the extremes in which the Ancients took to reflect our Divine connections to the cosmos while we are experiencing life in the physical.

The Nile would not be complete without speaking about the Egyptian people. Steeped in tradition, they live simple lives and are genuinely peaceful and happy. The child in the left photo willingly stopped to poise for the camera walking his baby camel while his friend rested in the shade of an adult camel. Many people visiting Egypt comment on the spark in the eyes of Egyptians, particularly the children.

Egyptian people also have high regard for the Nile and its life-giving qualities. As shown on the right they can be found playing and honoring the river. When asked, they speak of the Nile in terms of a nourishing Mother. Generally when you ask any Egyptian about the Nile and land, they speak from the heart and immediately convey a care-taking energy.

The Egyptian people primarily live along the delta of the Nile. Who would blame them? It is not only beautiful and has lush vegetation, but the water itself has a mesmerizing quality. And as shown in this photo, Minarets are placed near the Nile so the water carries the sound. This photo was taken during the Facilitators’ Journey in November 2005 during a full moon.

Minarets are buildings constructed for long-held trained religious singing at set times each day. Regardless of your religious or spiritual beliefs, the haunting tones resonate deeply to all listening. It is believed that the tradition comes from the understanding of toning and the power of voice and harmonics, such as “Ohmmmmm” that will be sung during the Circle the Pyramid Event.

This photo was taken while sailing in a feluca near Aswan. It was during the final night on the Nile of the Facilitators’ Journey in November 2005. Several of us were watching the sunset and noticed the clouds formed an Eye of Horus. It was a perfect ending to our journey along the Nile before we returned to Cairo as it is to this section on the Nile.
